Staging the groundbreaking for The Village at Santa Monica was directed by Related California as a salute to the many in the community who had supported the lengthy effort to win approvals for the $350 million mixed-use, mixed-income development – the final piece in the revitalization of the civic hub in thriving downtown Santa Monica. Led by Mayor Richard Bloom, more than 100 city officials and staff joined community leaders to sign a 12-foot steel girder and enjoy lunch in a large tent accompanied by the whir of giant earthmovers already at work. Speakers praised Related for its community outreach, its selection of topflight architects, and its mix of affordable and market rate rentals. Local newspapers and blogs covered the event that was reported on the front page of the Los Angeles Times Business section. Casey & Sayre’s responsibilities included planning, staging, coordinating with city officials, drafting run-of-show, speaker talking points, news release and fact sheets, as well as pitching media to attend and supplying follow-up stories and photos to local papers, blogs and national trade publications.
